THE BABY STEPS

Our Story

We are AceBuddy, a software consultancy based in Costa Rica specializing in full-stack architecture, complex data processing, and enterprise-grade systems. Founded by Albert, a Civil Engineer, and Liubov, a Master of Science in Biology—both of whom are Computer Science Professionals—our firm operates with the analytical rigor of traditional engineering. Today, as a structured corporate entity with a focus on project governance and technical accuracy, we deliver scalable digital solutions for a worldwide clientele.

The Engineering Foundation

Before we transitioned into the digital space, we operated an independent Leed certified Green Building consultancy. One of our defining early projects was a custom IoT water-metering system for a 200-household residential development.

The problem we solved was that the residential development had no tracking of the water spent per house, which resulted in the total bill being divided unfairly among the 200 homes.

To solve this we designed a hardware-to-software pipeline—utilizing an Arduino, an SQL database, a Flask backend, and a JavaScript-HTML UI—to track the electric current from flowing water, measuring the water spent per liter and ensuring accurate billing for the community.

This hands-on experience in physical engineering shaped our approach to digital architecture: it made us realize how helpful software and hardware can be in delivering effective solutions for Green Building construction. Consequently, starting with this project, Albert began to dive deeper into programming to satisfy a specific service requirement and gain a competitive edge in the market.

Ground Zero and the Pivot to Code

When shifts in the market necessitated a change in direction, we faced a significant financial reset due to bureaucratic procedures in construction legislation. To generate survival revenue, we began offering digital services in mobile development. We initially attempted to use third-party "no-code" builders, but we quickly realized these platforms lacked the control required for high-level business needs. We decided that to deliver true value, we had to master the fundamentals of software engineering ourselves.

We started from zero. While Albert was studying at night through Udacity’s software engineering tracks—earning his first 150 coding badges out of a total 216 he would eventually complete—we entered the global freelance market on Upwork. With no online credentials or project history, finding work was a significant challenge.

Our breakthrough came when a New Jersey client, Easy Translations, trusted us to redo their platform from the ground up. Leveraging Albert’s fluency in English and Spanish, we designed the entire site and integrated a secure PayPal payment system. We delivered the project ahead of schedule, earning a perfect 5.0-star review. The client’s feedback—describing our work as "AWESOME" and "highly recommended," alongside other wonderful compliments—officially opened the door for us to the global market.

The 2188-Hour Crucible

With that foundation, we spent the following years building a reputation for reliability, eventually logging more than 2,188 hours of production coding while maintaining a sustained 100% Job Success Score. Parallel to our client work, we completed 22 specialized courses on Udemy covering JavaScript, React, Node.js, advanced web applications, and Computer Science 101.

This reputation, along with our extensive portfolio of Wix-developed projects, propelled us into the highest Wix tier: "The Wix Marketplace," where AceBuddy is recognized globally as a top-tier technical partner. We secured our first official Marketplace project with the prestigious Swiss law firm CJC Advisors, marking our transition into trusted and established enterprise consulting. Today, our delivery portfolio includes technical work for prominent organizations such as Unilever, Bang & Olufsen, Harte Hanks, RidgeRun, and GirlTrek.

Academic Consolidation

Since then, we have begun architecting solutions for technical leads and management-level engineers, including Google employees with their own personal projects. We chose to consolidate our extensive practical experience with solid academic standards to ensure a rigorous foundation for our digital services.

We enrolled in Harvard Professional Education programs, completing intensive coursework in Computer Science, Full-Stack Web Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Python Programming. Every major project and Capstone we developed was reviewed, evaluated, and approved by members of the Harvard University Computer Science faculty.

This academic grounding ensures that the systems we engineer today—such as the processing of NASA-mission datasets on cosmoo.net—adhere to strict global standards for security, performance, and code quality, ensuring reliability and functionality.

Finally, we remain deeply grateful for the exceptional instruction of the educators who shaped our engineering philosophy: David J. Malan (Harvard University), Brian Yu (Harvard University), Doug Lloyd (Harvard University), Peter Norvig (Udacity), and Michael Littman (Udacity). Their rigorous teachings—from full-stack architecture to advanced algorithms—set the standard for the systems we build today.

AceBuddy Today

AceBuddy is currently recognized by Clutch as a Top 5 Software Development Company in Costa Rica. As a formal consultancy with established project management standards and fiduciary protocols, we ensure that all resources are allocated with precision.

Our internal benchmark for engineering excellence is DnaUp, our proprietary bioinformatics platform. DnaUp is a case study in high-efficiency architecture; we utilize Web Workers and Binary Large Objects (blobs) to handle intensive genomic processing in the browser. This strategy freed our Django backend from the burden of handling extremely heavy chromosomal sequences, allowing us to search for mutations against NCBI reference chromosomes with exceptional speed. By optimizing these algorithms, we achieved a powerful, data-heavy tool maintained at $5 operational costs.

This is the standard we bring to every client: highly advanced logic delivered through lean, extremely optimized, and cost-effective architecture.
